After the season 3 finale of FX Network’s Fargo series, we’ll look back at the 1996 film that inspired the show.

Fargo is famous for its portrayal of “Minnesota Nice,” a system of manners that demands politeness, even to the point of absurdity. And things do get absurd, violently so. And this raises a question: what good is niceness in a meaningless world?

As you’ll see, Fargo’s answer to this question is a bit complicated, but in a way that’s useful for Christians. We’ll take a look at that answer by examining the movie in relation to Jesus’s teachings in John 13 and C.S. Lewis’s thoughts about niceness and newness.
